I Prize Peace Innovator Spotlights are perfect non-fiction texts to compliment your lesson: current, interesting, and not too long! 

A Guide to Using I Prize Peace in Your Classroom

(1) Use the area labels (business, environment, health, etc.) to find innovators in your specific classroom subject.

(2) Choose one (or more!) relevant innovator spotlight.

(3) Read and discuss the spotlight with your students.

(4) Extension activity ideas for students:
  • compare/contrast two innovators
  • find innovators' business locations on a map
  • go to "Sources" websites
  • invent a dialogue between the innovator and a famous person in history
  • design a t-shirt that represents the innovator
  • journal about connections and thoughts about the innovator
  • watch videos of innovators
  • create a piece of art that represents the innovator
  • write an acrostic poem (or any type of poem) about the innovator
  • research to learn more about poverty, nonviolence, or sustainable solutions
  • design a product or business to fight poverty
  • create a spotlight about a personal hero
